My name is Isibéal O’Connell and I am a 4th Year photography student at TU Dublin.

Currently, my photo practice is predominantly documentary style and location based. As I am documenting the beauty ritual and routines of young women at home it is mostly interiors and I have been experimenting with flashes and lighting in these settings. I am inspired by the work of Nan Goldin, Corinne Day and Petra Collins in that these pictures are attempting to be an unvarnished record of actual lives. I am learning the skills of observation and recording, while trying to intrude as little as possible and putting the subject at ease so that they can be themselves.

In the studio I am inspired by fashion photographers from the early-mid twentieth century such as Horst P. Host and George Hoyningen-Huene. I enjoy creating theatrical black and white studio portraits.

I continue to have an interest in studio work and have enjoyed the experience of photographing dynamic environments such as film sets and Fashion Week events
